The GeeksverseSame Scene, Different Book

Same Scene, Different Book

This stood out to me when I was reading both issues. I got a weird sense of Deja Vu. Hadn’t I just read this?

First, I present Exhibit A: Brightest Day #1

Second, I present Exhibit B: Green Lantern #54

See what I mean? Deja Vu.

Same scene, same words, just different angles and like looking thru different lenses (artists).

I feel gypped.

The worst part is that the part of the scene in GL really has no bearing on the current storyline in that title. It’s like an interlude to that storyline. It didn’t have to happen in the GL book. It happened in Brightest Day, why did it need to happen in Green Lantern?

To top it off, the scene is expanded in GL with parts that would have made more sense in Brightest Day. Brightest Day is such a quick read already, each issue feels really short, that it could have used the expanded scene that feels out of place in Green Lantern.

It’s one thing to show a group doing something in the event book, to start it in the event book, and then to continue it in the solo or team title. But this? This is the same scene.

Except in Brightest Day it looks like Hal is asking "where is King Arthur" but in Green Lantern it looks like Carol is asking it. So I guess it’s not the exact same scene.

But seriously, this kind of bugged me. I feel gypped with Brightest Day as it is. If I wasn’t reading Green Lantern (which just started BTW, this was only my 2nd issue), then I would have missed what happened when three of the different Corps touched the White Lantern. I don’t know, but that seems like a pretty big development that would affect whats going on in Brightest Day more then it would Green Lantern. Especially since it looks like it gets ignored with Green Lantern #55 (at least what is shown in the preview I’ve seen).

Disappointed. I would have wanted more pages that relate to the New Guardians storyline in GL and not something that should have been shown in Brightest Day.
