Tips on Getting an Internship

Here are a few tips if you want to increase your chances of landing an internship with Marvel Entertainment.

When applying for an internship, make sure that you do so in a timely manner. The more time you give yourself to make all the appropriate preparations, the higher your chances of getting the internship.
If you have a portfolio, make sure it is organized and ready. Remember quality over quantity, your portfolio is supposed to show your potential.
You should also draft a quality resume. Make sure your resume showcases your skills and experience in the most organized and concise way, and make sure to check for grammatical errors. A bulky or overdone resume is a big mistake a lot of applicants make. Employers have a lot of resumes to review, so if your resume is bulky and extensive, it may find itself at the bottom of the pile.
When writing your cover letter, make sure it states why you are qualified for the position you are applying for.
If you are selected for an interview, make sure that you arrive early. You don’t want to get lost and you may have to sign in or fill out paperwork upon arrival.
Make sure you dress accordingly for the interview; you only make a first impression once.
Be prepared for the interview. Make sure you have all of the required documents, resume, cover letter, portfolio, etc.
It also doesn’t hurt to do some research about the company you are interested in working for; this goes a long way and shows the interviewer you are interested in what the company has to offer.
We get many applications each semester. There is no need to be discouraged if we do not contact you.

Why Internships Are Important

Internships are very crucial to students today. With the economy in the condition that it is, the job market isn’t as abundant as it has been in the past. Internships allow students to test drive careers and gain real world experiences that prepare them for the job market that lies ahead. Employers today are more concerned about experiences and skills that prospective applicants bring to the table. The more experience you have, the better your chances are of landing a full-time job after graduation. Internships do just that. Most companies offer full-time or part-time jobs to students once they complete the internship, but this varies from company to company. Regardless of an internship being paid or unpaid, the experience and value that it brings to a student is priceless and is the first step into the real world.

Previous Marvel interns have joined Marvel full-time, becoming web designers, comic writers, comic editors, digital coordinators, editors, even Vice Presidents and more!
