Final Wolfman? Not Hardly
Published on Sunday, October 31, 2010 by

I’ve been following Astounding Wolfman since the first Free Comic Book Day issue. I enjoyed the ride for the past 24 issues. It is the title that hooked me into the Kirkmania fandom. When it was announced that Kirkman was going to end Astounding Wolfman I was disappointed. The issues moving toward the dreaded landmark #25 of doom made me enjoy the closing of this tale. Then the wait happened. Issue #24 has been sitting as a place holder on comic shelves for far to long.

The only thing more disappointing than the news was the wait for the final issue to ship. And now? I’m still waiting. The series that should have ended this summer is still unfinished. Nov 10 is the scheduled ship date for the final installment of Astounding Wolf #25, but it won’t be the only Astounding Wolfman that week.

Kirkman has been saying in the letters that Wolfman would not die and would not disappear from his corner of the Image universe. That becomes apparent as the long awaited final issue comes out the same day as the not so long awaited guest appearance.

In an odder piece of merchandise timing the final issue of the serial series hits the stands beside of the trade paper back collecting the issue. Completists will pick up the final issue and perhaps the trade as well. The rest of us will have a choice on the comic book shelf.

THE ASTOUNDING WOLF-MAN #25 40 PAGES, FC, $4.99

THE ASTOUNDING WOLF-MAN, VOL. 4 TP 168 PAGES / FC, $16.99, Collects THE ASTOUNDING WOLF-MAN 19-25

GUARDING THE GLOBE #3 32 PAGES / FC, $3.50 (Astounding Wolfman guesting).

Not hardly an ending, but this does prove that Wolfman will not be a regularly featured member of the Kirkman universe because it feels as if he has forgotten about the character already amid his other numerous projects.
