This issue opens with a woman alone in a cabin in the mountains of North Carolina. She’s praying to a bunch of different gods and religions, including a statue of Thor. Becca Steinhardt provides the narration throughout the story and it’s told from the future as she recites what happened to us.

From her cabin, it goes to a battle between Thor and a god-being named Glory, one of the Chaos Kings willing servants. She tells us what goes on in the battle and how Thor slays Glory but ultimately is “slain” himself, crashing to Earth in the form of a man.

Becca takes him into her home and for some unknown reason they trust eachother. The man, who doesn’t have any memories, awakes the next morning and she allows him to stay for the day, saying she’ll take him to town the next day. He helps her chop wood and do chores around the cabin and she tells him how she wound up alone in the middle of the mountains.

She was married for twelve years. Becca and her husband, Peter, had a daughter. When the daughter was six, they were in a car accident and died, with Becca remaining at home. In her grief she turned to religion, all religions, trying to find out why any god would allow such a thing to happen. She ran to the family’s vacation home and has been hiding for three years.

The mysterious man asks her if she was just using God to hide from her grief and she gets mad, saying that her faith is a lie. She says that her faith got her nothing. Three years of praying and isolation and nothing. She still has her grief and she still misses her husband and daughter.

The man hugs her and one of Glory’s servants attacks the house.
