Athena is telling the Chaos King why she tricked the Chinese Gods into letting him free. She’s not able with the way existence is right now and she knows that after chaos there will inevitably be order and she hopes that creation will get it right this time. She knows that the Chaos King, growing too big with all his power, needs her in order to find Hercules.

Instead the Chaos King absorbs her.

Hercules and Amadeus Cho are sent hurtling to Earth and land in the Halemaumau Crater, where supposedly Gaea (the spirit of Earth and the mother of all Gods) performed her first miracles. There Pele and Gaea have gathered the last Gods that are alive to give them a moments peace before the Chaos King consumes them all.

Hercules wants to continue the fight until none are left.

But Cho comes up with a plan. He wants to transport all of the inhabitants of Earth to the pocket universe that Hera had created and had trapped Hercules in. The multiverse will be destroyed but the people of Earth will live.

Hercules and the other Gods see it as running away and want nothing to do with it. Cho leaves and it’s Galactus that offers to aid him in building the device.

Athena attacks Hercules and they battle. Because he is now an All-Father, Hercules is able to work the numbers in his head and comes to the realization that Amadeaus Cho is right. Meanwhile, the Chaos King releases his minions from the Negative Zone to attack the Baxter Building, where Cho and Galactus are building their machine.

The Chaos King attacks the Earth, causing Gaea great pain. Gaea convinces Hercules that he needs to stop being the God of Heroes and become the God of Gods, seizing the power of creation itself. Hercules allows Pele to burn away his old self, learning Gaea’s lesson.

“If you would save all creation, look beyond each single life. Let those who must fall, fall. Mourn the fading of each dead leaf. But do not pause to stop it. Instead you create anew. Create out of ashes and death. Creat out of Darkness and Chaos. That is how existence fought for life.”

Hercules rises, reborn. Athena attacks and with a wave of his hand Hercules destroys her.

The Chaos King, sensing Hercules rebirth, knows that it is too late.
