This issue opens with a Captain Mar-Vell flashback to one of his earliest days as a soldier in the Kree/Skrull war. We see the Captain of that troop teaching Mar-Vell the Aakon Gambit, which Mar-Vell is trying to set up at the Olympus Group Building in New York, where the Dead Avengers and awakened civilians are making their last ditch stand against the forces of the Grim Reaper and Nekra.

Dr. Druid is his normal cheeful self which angers Captain Mar-Vell. Mar-Vell sends the Vision underground to make sure the minions of the Grim Reaper can’t tunnel underneath and he sends Yellowjacket outside to scout around.

Yellowjacket sees the Reaper’s forces trying to dig under the building, trying to destroy Druid’s thorn wall, and building a bridge to connect buildings to buildings.

She sees the Secret Avengers ship crashed with Sharon Carter asleep but gets attacked by one of the creatures. Swordsman saves her and after flirting with her and trying for some nookie, he shows her the tunnel he used to get out there. The Swordsman was getting bored inside.

They meet the Vision in the tunnel and go and report their findings. Druid is surprised that Nekra is outside and with the Reaper again. The Vision explains to Yellowjacket who the Grim Reaper and Nekra are. Deathcry has a flashback to right before she was sent to Earth, how she was stripped of her name by her aunt, Lilandra the Majestrix of the Shi’ar. Coming to Earth and her mission there was a chance for Deathcry to earn her name back.

Outside Druid’s astral form approaches Nekra. It seems that Druid wants to rekindle an old relationship. Nekra tells him that it is the Reaper’s hate that keeps her going and that they gave themselves to the Chaos King in order to kill whatever was left of the Avengers.

At the bridge, Captain Mar-Vell, the Swordsman and Deathcry attack the builders, destroying the bridge. Nekra realizes that Druid’s form was just a distraction and she charges up the building to attack the Avengers.

Deathcry jumps onto Nekra, hoping for an honorable death, since her true death was not.

Meanwhile Yellowjacket and Vision are placing Pym particle charges around the building next door. Yellowjacket is saying that she had originally stolen the suit to take care of herself but being in the Mansion and around the Avengers changed that feeling. She wonders if this is their second chance. She wonders if thats why this group was allowed back. Vision says he does not believe in second chances but that he wants to prove worthy of the selection of coming back to life.

Yellowjacket destroys the charges as Druid is overwhelmed and his barrier falls. Grim Reaper starts his attack as the building falls blocking his path.

Nekra is about to kill Deathcry but Mar-Vell saves her, telling Deathcry that no one gets left behind.

The Grim Reaper comes up behind Mar-Vell and stabs him in the back.
