After the events of Shadowland, Matt Murdock is now wandering America searching for himself. He finds himself in a small town that has dangers hiding beneath the surface and poor Matt gets caught up in them.

There’s alot of nice little details in this story. Matt not being able to read the menu because it’s laminated. The small town cop taking a cellphone picture of Matt. The details help strengthen the overall story.

Diggle does a good job conveying the small town feel. All the elements, the cliches, are there, but Diggle makes it feel natural and fitting. Matt not defending himself against the bullies is a nice way of showing just how far he’s fallen and how he’s changed, not wanting to go back to what had caused his downfall in the first place. Diggle avoids talking about Shadowland, which is a good thing as that’s opposite of what this series is about, bringing Matt Murdock back to basics.

Matt Murdock works better at street level and this promises to be as down to basics as it can be.

I’ve never seen Gianfelice’s work before and I wonder why. I really enjoyed it. The style is loose and rough, with different features of the characters slightly elongated. His figures have a smooth movement and motion. It’ll be good to see how he does at drawing Murdock in action. The little bit shown here is well done.

He’s strong at drawing emotion and expressions. It’s hard to show much range of expression on a bearded character that wears dark glasses throughout the entire issue, but Gianfelice does a good job at it.

His style is fairly simple, but it works very well. He doesn’t have a lot of detail in the backgrounds, but it ends up reinforcing the small town feel and giving it a desolate, run-down look.
