Now this book is finally starting to go where it was meant to.

It’s yet another take on Superman in the real world. We’ve seen alot of different takes over the years. And we’ve even seen the “kid becomes superman” angle (Ultraverse’s Prime) but Millar adds a bit to it by making it in a more realistic setting.

He does a decent job of showing how the world would react to a “superman” just appearing out of nowhere. And we have the added take of seeing how a kid who’s grown up on comic books would react. That helps give this series enough difference from other “supermen” tales to stand on it’s own.

It’s just a shame that it took four issues to get to the meat. The previous issues weren’t that exiting or special. This one is the one that starts making the story something different and special.

We see how Simon deals with different situations. We see how he deals with bullies. We see how he deals with celebrity. And we see how he deals with taking on bigger issues.

It’ll be interesting if Millar takes the risks and takes these to their logical conclusions or he takes the easy way out. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when Superior’s version of Lois Lane makes her pass at Superior. We can already see how his handling of the bully will give this world it’s first super villian.

Yu’s in top form in this issue. If you’re a fan of his work then you’ll like this issue. If you’re not a fan of his work then you won’t. It’s not anything different then the normally excellant work we see from Yu.
