So far in this mini-series we’ve seen The Steward, who guides humanity behind the scenes, helping us achieve goals and better the race. He knows what the human race is, but he’s working towards what the human race can become; and we’ve been introduced to his opposite number Kestus, a beautiful woman who is immortal but is forced to live amongst humanity and sees us for all the darkness we have inside. She works towards keeping humans from evolving into more brutal creatures then she already perceives us.

This issue is where Kestus is really defined. The prior two introduced her and what her place in the world was. This issue gives her life a meaning and a definition. And it’s an interesting one. We see two sides of a similar coin. Two immortals that are forced to watch humanity grow and evolve. One looks down from on high and can pick and choose what he sees. The other is forced to live down with the humans and is forced to see all the ugliness that there is.

It’s a good dynamic and that it’s revealed in the third issue is well crafted. And that the issue ends on a happy note, in the middle of a five issue mini-series sets the stage for the final two.

Both The Steward and Kestus are interesting characters. Even without reading any prior Days Missing series, just this one, we’re able to get a good feel for The Steward. But this series is really about Kestus and he she evolves. Where will she end up is an interesting question.

Marquez’s art is beautiful. He’s one of the top artists working today. He captured the feel of the time perfectly with very few cues and oppotunities.

Days Missing: Kestus #3 receives

This is a nice little mini-series.
