There’s two parts to this story. In Hell we follow Brimstone and his team of border hounds, Dawg and Luscious, as they go about their job, retrieving escaped souls. In New York, we follow the murders and hunt for a murderer called The Hostile, who was supposed to have died eight years ago.

The two stories weave in and out of eachother, with bits and pieces being added that slowly draw them together. It’s well crafted and laid out. Brimstone’s story moves forward and it’s through the part of the story focusing on Orgrathan, the devil in charge, that the two tales become interconnected.

The Hostile, who we find out is an escaped soul that was able to get back to Earth, is waiting for someone he calls the Imposter. The revelation at the end that it’s Brimstone sets up an interesting story for the next issue.

I’m not sure if this was the intent, but at the beginning of the story, The Hostile is depicted without hair and then later he has dreads and a beard. It makes it seem like the first murderer shown would be the imposter since the two appear so different.

The humor element that I enjoyed so much in issue #1 doesn’t show up in this issue as much, but this issue does a good job at expanding our understanding of how Hell operates and giving us a better look at Brimstone as well.

Shah’s strength is in his figures. They are well proportioned, well detailed and he maintains the look of each consistently. The action is a tad stiff though, not flowing smoothly in a couple of spots. The backgrounds could stand a little more detail.

All in all though Brimstone is a good looking book.
