Not quite sure if this zero issue does the job or not. We’re given the bones of the story and are introduced to what will be the main characters, we’re given some of the past and mythos of this world and we’re given the villian of it all. So all the pieces are there. It’s just that there isn’t enough.

We learn that there’s magic in the world and that magical creatures have been hiding in it. But we’re expected to believe that a hoodie sweatshirt and sunglasses are all that is required to hide horned creatures?

Too much time is spent on the villian. Alot of the good stuff is given away. We learn how he escaped from where he had been banished. That should have been a central mystery for the first couple of issues.

We find out that Sudana is a druid, but we don’t have the least bit of information on what that means. We know that she tells the truth, because the demons (I guess thats what they are) tell us so. But beyond that we know nothing about her or how she knows what happened to Samsun.

There’s no hook to this zero issue. There’s not enough given to make us care about the world or the characters.

Randolph’s art is nice. He draws an awesome Griffin.

It looks cleaner and tighter then the work he’s done on Starborn. It almost looks like a different artist.

The job of a zero issue is to grab the reader and make them want to buy more. This one doesn’t do that.
