Hill has crafted a magical story. Each issue of “Keys to the Kingdom” has helped bring a wider grasp and understanding of the characters involved. We learn more about them, and through them we learn more about the keys. It’s a good way to tell the story. Each issue advances the overall plot, well at the time being pretty stand alone. Each issue is new reader friendly, well having deeper meaning for long term fans.

This issue is really good as we watch Tyler come to some realizations and start to put the pieces together. The clues were all there and now he finds out what they meant. It sets up next issue for some interesting confrontations. Zack won’t get back in time for his next match, what will Kinsey do?

Hill keeps a good pace throughout the issue. There’s not much in the way of action, or even the use of the keys, but it is strong on characterization and development. The script is strong, with good advice and well laid out thoughts. There isn’t a moment of boredom, it feels like each word has deeper meaning, even when Bode is complaining about lazyanya.

Rodriguez’s art is brillant. Each page is strong and well laid out, the composition helping strengthen the plot. Each character is well rendered. Each page well detailed.

Locke & Key: Keys to the Kingdom #5 receives
