Those that don’t like seeing torture, don’t read this issue.

Aaron tells a story of a man being pushed as far as he can go, having everyone of his beliefs attacked, being beaten physically and mentally, drained, and how he still stands strong. This is a defining Captain America story. Yes, it’s Ultimate Captain America, who has always been more of a hard-ass then regular Marvel Universe Cap; but the story can still be applied.

Frank Simpson tries to break Steve Rogers. He tortures him. He uses the super soldier Cambodians to beat on him. And during the torture he recites lists of atrocities that the United States has been involved in. Frank Simpson is a broken man, but he doesn’t see himself that way. The moment when he looks in the mirror and says that just because Rogers didn’t break, it doesn’t mean that Simpson is wrong.

The two men are opposites. Frank Simpson broke and he needs Rogers to break so he can feel justified in what he has done since. Rogers won’t break. He know that everything he does is for the good. Like the doctor told Simpson, he won’t break but eventually he will break you.

The script is stellar. By actions we come to know Simpson. By his never giving up, never giving in, we learn the mettle of Steve Rogers. The scene with the SHIELD agents tells us everything we need to know about Frank Simpson. He needs Cap to break. But we know Cap won’t.

Ron Garney is one of the best artists working today. Each page is amazing. He captures Caps stone hard glare perfectly. This man needs a high profile assignment after this.
