The Clowns have been sent in. But these aren’t the “make you laugh” kind of clowns, no, these are the “make you dead” kind of clowns.

DnA have taken Paul Cornell’s story and ran with it. Only 2 issues into their run and they already have a firm grasp on the characterization. They are also showing their strength in world building. Only 2 issues in and we already have competing agencies. The government sends in the Clowns to wipe out the alien, Soldier Zero, and we see another faction send Application Nine in to take the alien from Stewart.

Neither are totally on the up and up, neither are good. It’ll be interesting to see how this develops.

The strength of Soldier Zero is in the characters and how they act. The wheelchair bound lady is interesting. She’s extremely bitter but there’s also a softer side to her. It’ll be interesting to see the triangle that develops between her, Stewart and Lily.

The Soldier calling out the weapons it was using was a bit odd, as this hadn’t happened in any other issues. It felt out of place in the book. Also the Soldier saying he could sense the radiation signature of App Nine was a bit odd as well. Stewart hadn’t seemed that comfortable with the Soldier’s abilities in previous issues. It would have probably helped the story to have had the interior monologue between Stewart and the Soldier.

Pina’s art is decent. He’s got a firm grasp on anatomy. His characters all well proportioned, move naturally and even the wheelchair bound characters look natural. His story flows smoothly.

The only negative is a lack of excitement to the pages. They are well done. The backgrounds could use some more detail. But there just seems to be an overall lack of bang to his pages.

Stan Lee’s Soldier Zero #6 receives
3.5 out of 5

A decent story and it’s nice to get the world of Soldier Zero expanded.
