This is a Godzilla movie in comic book form. Godzilla comes, he stomps on the city and there’s lots of humans trying to figure out what to do about it.

It’s a very quick read because not much happens. Godzilla comes. He stomps on the city. They try nuking him but that doesn’t work.

There’s a running gag throughout the book of someone seeing Godzilla and going “you’ve got to be ****ing me”. It happens three or four times. Trying to add a bit of humor to the book.

And really, this book needs it. There’s no substance to it. Godzilla comcs. He stomps on the city. That’s the book.

But it’s still kind of fun. There’s just something nice about flipping through a book of page after page of a city being stomped on.

And of course it’s Tokyo being stomped on.

I feel bad for the writers of this book, and the timing of the scheduling, as there are a couple of “is it an earthquake” comments in the issue and it takes place in Japan. Just bad timing, not a fault of the writers or IDW in anyway.

If you’re looking for something deep, don’t bother. But if you’re looking to watch a monster stomp on a city, then go and buy this book.

It’s good to see Hester’s pencils again. He’s been writing so much that I’d forgotten what his artwork, where he got his start, looked like. He does good with Godzilla, getting the details of the monsters skin and plates. The destroyed city is well done as well, with nice shots of people running away.

Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters #1 receives
3.5 out of 5

There really isn’t much to this book, but Godzilla fans will enjoy it.
