Is this a Green Arrow book or Galahad?

This Arthurian Legend stuff just doesn’t feel right with Green Arrow. It’s like it’s being forced into the story. Is the idea to make the forest into Ollie’s Sherwood or what? I’m a huge fan of Arthurian legends but this just isn’t working.

Magic, demons, supernatural is stuff that doesn’t belong in Ollie’s world. He’s street level. He needs politics, corrupt politicians, ganglords, etc.. Being the protector of a knight of the forest just isn’t working.

Not that the earlier stuff in this series, with The Queen and Nix was any better. But it felt more right for Ollie’s world then the current stuff is.

This issue is one giant fight between The Demon and Green Arrow and allies. It also contains some kind of spiritual quest for Galahad. It’s decent enough, for an extended fight sequance, but there’s no substance. It feels like a transition issue, a filler, just there to take up an issue so that the arc fits into a trade and ends at a certain number.

Neves pencils are getting better each month. That is a good thing. He’s still got some issues with awkward posing. Some of the characters appear stiff and unnatural in their movements. His work is detailed. Usually. All the rest of this issue is detailed except for The Demon itself. Etrigan normally has a certain look and he starts off that way but by issue’s end all the detail that makes Etrigan stand out is no longer there, he’s just a featureless creature.

Green Arrow #10 receives
3 out of 5

I’ve been waiting for 10 issues to see what the purpose of this new Green Arrow series would be. Still waiting…
