This is an odd series. It’s hard to get a handle on what the purpose behind it is. We see Vader as he becomes more and more ruthless and I believe this will also end up showing the beginnings of the rivalry between Moff Tarkin and Vader.

Blackman’s story is a quick read, but strong. We see Vader doing what he does best. He’s ruthless with the insurgents. He doesn’t believe what they are saying and kills them one by one. I think it’ll end up that Lady Saro was using him to further her own goals. It’ll be interesting to see how Vader handles that.

The flashbacks are also well done. Showing a bit of what life could have been like for Anakin and Padme. That it’s Vader’s dreams gives it a more chilling feel and tone.

Leonardi’s art is some of his best ever. The coloring on the flashback scenes really helps set the mood and feel. There’s some storytelling/pacing issues with the art in the interior, as Vader makes his way through the fort. But overall it’s good work.

Star Wars: Darth Vader And The Lost Command #3 receives
3.5 out of 5

A good middle chapter. Be interesting to see how this ends up.
