John Rogers is having fun with this title. And it shows.

The banter and comraderary between the adventurers is natural. It helps convey that these are people that are good at their jobs, and have been working together for years.

Every other line out of the cast is funny. Adric’s statement about the life of being an adventurer being a suicide mission rings true, and illustrates how and why these characters can be so carefree when confronted with a portal to another world and a hobgoblin army led by a cyclops.

This is just fun. There isn’t another world to describe it. The adventure is fun. There’s danger and excitement. This is a pen and paper rpg session come to “life” in comic book form. But it’s the one-liners that just drive this story forward and give it the sense of fun.

You can almost picture the Dungeon Master thinking “what else can I throw at them”.

But it’s not all just one-liners. There’s a strong story to this. Adric comes up with a plan, the best one he can do given what he has to work with, and goes from there. We learn a bit more about the history of Adric, and it comes as it should, during the course of the adventure. It’s not sitting around at the tavern exchanging tales, it’s learning about the man through his actions.

Di Vito’s art is as strong as before but it’s gotten even better. The scenes of Bree flipping through the air are well done. There is a true sense of movement in her positions. The flow of the action in the fight scenes is well done. Dynamite work.
