I do not like that this book comes out bi-monthly. The landscape of the MU has changed so much in the time since the first issue of this title hit. Who knows what it will be like when the series ends.

That being said, I really am enjoying this series. Heinberg writes a great story. The Young Avengers have a natural banter and interaction, these really are a tight group of friends. It’s nice to see an android get jealous. And the return of Scott Lang works.

It works very well.

What could have been a very cheesy sequance ends up being a very well done sequance. It hits all the notes. Having the Young Avengers go back in time to when Jack of Hearts exploded and killed Scott Lang, hoping it jogs Wanda’s memory, could have been very bad. But the way Heinberg handles it give the whole sequance strength and the moments matter.

You really feel Cassie’s happiness when she sees her father alive.

The one thing that Heinberg hasn’t hit on, that I would like to see, is Hawkeye (Clint Barton) getting involved. In the first New Avengers, when Hawkeye returned, he found Wanda and had a brief relationship with her. It would be interested to have him so up and I’m surprised that Heinberg didn’t include him in the story.

Cheung’s art is gorgeous. There is no other way to describe it.

The interior pages of the dead Jack of Hearts is amazing. You can see the regret and pleading in Jack’s eyes even as his body has rotted away.

The Young Avengers have a youthful energy to them.

Avengers: The Children’s Crusade #5 receives
4.5 out of 5

Another excellant chapter but I’m worried about how this will end up and tie into the current events of the MU.
