Hickman is proving that he is a continuity master. This issue resolves threads that have been in Secret Warriors since almost the beginning as well as tying into the past of Nick Fury and Baron Von Strucker as well S.H.I.E.L.D. and reaching out to the Hand and Clan Yashida. The pieces that Hickman has laid, like a master bricklayer, are coming to fruitition now. There’s even the origin of the Life Model Decoy technology and a tie-in to what Ed Brubaker did in Secret Avengers with Max Fury.

And the big shocker that launched Secret Warriors? That Hydra had been controling SHIELD for years? Hickman deals with that as well and the way he does just turns the tables on everything.

Each issue I get more and more upset that we aren’t being given the full 60 issues that this series was planned for. What an epic it would have been. It’s still a great read now, but it would have been so much better.

This issue shows the true strength of Nick Fury. After the events of the last couple issues we thought Fury had had enough. That he was done. That he was ready to give up. We forgot that this is Nick Fury. He’s never ready to give up.

And if you thought Fury wasn’t in control of the game? Read this and find out how a true master does it.

Vitti’s art is getting better every issue. At first the charcters had a fatness to them. Now he’s able to make them more proportioned. They still have the roughness that is his style, but they are better proportioned. He’s able to capture Fury’s surrender perfectly. You can see it in his face and his eyes. The Baron’s shock is also perfectly captured.

There’s something about the rough style of Vitti’s that gives the expressions that much more impact.

Secret Warriors #26 receives
5 out of 5

I’m very sad this title is ending soon and I hope that Marvel has plans for Fury that involves Jonathan Hickman.
