Walking Dead #84 Advanced Review

Last issue, Rick was ready to take Carl and flee the suburb outside of D.C. because of the zombie horde. Then Carl was bit. Rick is supposed to be the center of this comic and everyone else can die. Rick has already lost loved ones: wife, newborn, friends, etc. The one other character that everyone though was safe was Carl who many people assume will take over the book when Rick does eventually die from old age many years from now. Last issue, Carl’s head was bitten. Big hole!

This issue sees Rick dropping Carl off to receive medical attention. Medical attention means firing up the lights and generator which causes the house to be the target of the invading zombies. Rick goes outside to work out his frustration on the undead. He’s not alone out there.

This is a zombie splattering issue. Several sets of survivors are shown working together from different parts of the suburban stronghold. The story pulls everyone in. This is a big issue and another turning point for the series, right on time for issue five of No Way Out. This will be the issue that concludes a trade paperback. Kirkman has his pacing tied to trade paperback chunks.
