Planet of Apes-Advanced Review

An all-new series that takes place before the 1968 Planet of the Apes movie continuity. Not a reboot, but a restart to the first five films! Planet of the Apes is a franchise which has been mined time and again on film, comic pages, and satire. Now they are relaunching the first five films with this all new comic which seems to be ignoring the Tim Burton movie which is not politely referred to as Marky Mark and the Monkey Bunch.

The art is clean and consistent. It brings the humanoid monkeys, chimps, apes, and simians to life in a realistic manner. Like the newly released trailer the style is realistic. It seems to be taking visual cues at least from the Burton film, moreso than the man-in-suit look from the decades previous movies that has become so famous.

1,200 years before a man named Taylor fell from the stars…ape and man have lived in peace. The elder, reciting their joint history, claims that Ceasar sealed away the weapons of man to be untouched. Now someone is touching them. Gun fire of resistance to harmony breaks the peaceful gathering. The peace of Ceasar is at an end. This comic sets up the creation of the disparity that a man named Taylor will find when he falls from the stars.

Be sure to head to your comic shop early this week. This comic has already sold out the distributor level. Check out a preview here on the Pryde. Share your thoughts on the Pryde forum.
