The idea is that these two soldiers are given augmentations that grant them extra adrenaline. The first issue, available for only $1.00, shows the two on a typical mission.

The problem, how can additional adrenaline allow them to pull off the stuff they do? It’s a story of two Captain Americas. The two soldiers don’t act like top operatives. Why did they get picked for this assignment?

The idea of the story is pretty interesting but the execution is a bit off. It’s a hard story to get into. I’m not sure what is off. The tone of the story doesn’t match with the idea. It doesn’t feel like a military operation.

There’s a charater that appears in the middle of the story and at the end. He appears out of nowhere and there’s nothing giving about who he is. It highlights the biggest flaw of this story. There’s not much in the way of explanation.

The art is decent if a bit stiff. The outfits of the two soldiers are as plain as they can be. It’s hard to tell which one is which and even gets confusing in a couple of spots.

The action is a bit hard to follow. There’s a couple of spots where the story doesn’t flow smoothly and a couple of weird perspective choices.

Red Spike #1 receives
2.5 out of 5

An interesting idea but not the best first issue.
