An intersting story. Interesting and good. It highlights the strengths of Bendis, his dialogue.

The narrative technique is odd. It’s a bunch of different Avengers talking to someone we don’t see. It seems like they are being interviewed for a book. It starts off going through the years with different Avengers and as the pages go we come up to the Avengers talking about Fear Itself. The interviews are in the future, but they’re talking about events that haven’t happened. It gives some foreshadowing about what effects Fear Itself will have on the team.

At first, when I heard about it, I wasn’t liking the idea of Hawkeye and Spider-Woman, but then I remembered that the groundwork was laid in the Hawkeye & Mockingbird series and then seeing how Bendis handles it in this issue. I’m kind of looking forward to it now.

This is where Bendis is one of the best in the business, with the dialogue. It’s natural and emotional. This story was dynamite. Simple, with no action, but powerful in it’s own way.

And Bachalo’s art?

Dynamite and awesome. This is the type of artist that Avengers should have. Romita Jr’s art was bad. Bachalo’s is not.

The two page spread is simply stunning. Amazing. And the way he poses the various Avengers in the different headshots shows his talent.

Avengers #13 receives
5 out of 5

For an issue with not much action, there’s alot happening in this issue.
