Waid returns to Simon Archard and gives him the mystery of his career and it seems to prove to be too much for Simon.

But there’s part of this that disappoints me and it’s the scene that shows Lightbourne and where he explains his plan and how he’s done it. I would have liked to have seen that in the last issue of the mini-series. This issue shows Archard pushed to his limits. It’s well done and nice to see that Simon can make mistakes but the whole thing unravels with Lightbourne’s scene.

The momentum is lost and it doesn’t recover. So that the next scene, that shows a distracted Simon, doesn’t carry the same feel it would have prior to Lightbourne’s scene.

Oosterveer’s art is pretty different from the regular artist. It’s cute. It doesn’t fit this series. Butch Guice was the perfect artist for this series and Mirco’s art is carving a nice niche as almost as good, but Oosterveer’s art just doesn’t fit. It’s too cute.

There are a couple of nice shots here and there but almost as many that aren’t as good.

Ruse #3 receives
3.5 out of 5

Still a solid mystery story but it loses it’s momentum halfway through.
