This is a spoof of Star Wars. Instead of space it takes place on a planet and is in medevil times. Instead of the “force”, they have “It” and Jadis Knights. There’s a bit of humor to the story but it’s nothing overstated. It’s not laugh out loud humor but more of a situational thing. I didn’t find it that funny.

The team goes to great lengths to match up their world with Star Wars. Druids instead of droids. Wagons instead of star ships. Blue swords instead of lightsabers. But sometimes it stretches pretty thin.

The basic comparasions are good and that makes the issue somewhat interesting. It’s not as good as it could have been, but it’s entertaining at least.

The biggest issue with this, and what makes me wonder why it falls under the Kaboom (a kids line) banner, is that the druids are referred to as slaves. That was kind of surprising.

The art fits a spoof story perfectly. The characters are different, but there’s enough similarity that you know who they are supposed to be. Spiessert’s work is the best part of this story. Seeing how he makes a “chewbacca” character work in their fantasy setting is fun to see.

Space Warped #1 receives
3.5 out of 5

Entertaining but nothing stellar.
