Introduced in Veronica #205, Kevin Keller made headlines coming out in Veronica #207. Kevin Keller is notable as the first openly gay character in Riverdale. The much covered Archie Comics character will be returning with a four part mini-series. The titular character will be put together by Dan Parent.
Dan Parent’s resume includes a range of Archie Comics publications. Outside of Archie Comics Parent also collaborated on Hack/Slash from Devils Due and Dreams of Dawn from Sirius Entertainment.
Details about this project were recently revealed at HeroCon’s Archie/Sonic Panel. Kevin Keller will cover the contemporary topic of homosexuality in true non-political Archie form, although it will touch on relevant topics like being gay in the military. The series will cover Kevin’s background before arriving in Riverdale and being taken into the Archie gang.

Kevin Keller follows a long tradition of reflecting societal concerns in the pages of Archie Comics. The group of teens that do not age change over the years. Jim Amash compares them to Charles Schultz’s Peanuts another group of unaging yet relevant comic characters. The lack of continuity allows for Archie Comics to explore new directions.
