Marvel held it’s Fear Itself panel on Sunday and there were some big announcements including a couple of new series as well as the next ‘branding’ of the Marvel Universe.

In attendance at the panel for Arune Singh (Marvel Communications Director), editor Steve Wacker, writers Chris Yost and Nick Spencer and Marvel’s SVP of Talent Management C.B. Cebulski.

The panel announced that the new post-event branding of the Marvel Universe would be “Battle Scars”, which would link the books together thematically much like Dark Reign and Heroic Age. Battle Scars will focus on the after affects of the Fear Itself battles.

Shattered Heroes will be a number of one-shots focusing on where Iron Man, Captain America and Thor go after Fear Itself.

October will see a new “Incredible Hulk” series by Jason Aaron with art by Marc Silvestri.

“The Fearless” will be a new bi-weekly series by Matt Fraction, Chris Yost, Cullen Bunn, Mark Bagley and Paul Pelletier. The series will show what happened to the hammers from Fear Itself. “This is Matt Fraction, Cullen Bunn and myself sitting in a room and saying, ‘What happens next?’ Bunn is really doing the heavy lifting on this series. It’s like a world tour of the Marvel Universe post-Fear Itself,” said Chris Yost.

“Fear Itself: Aftermath: Battle Scars” will feature a new character. The series will be written by Fraction, Yost and Bunn and will be drawn by Scot Eaton. Singh teased that every fan will recognize the significance of the character when he or she is revealed. Yost said there is a big secret at the core of the series.

Matt Fraction and Terry Dodson will be working on a new “The Defenders” series. It will feature the Red She-Hulk, Iron Fist, Doctor Strange and the Silver Surfer; all of whom were featured in teaser’s in the week leading up to SDCC. Singh said these would not be the only team members coming to the title. The Defenders will be tasked with taking on all the big threats from mystical ones to medical.

Marvel released some artwork for Battle Scars and Shattered Heroes after the panel.
