Now things are starting to come together. It had been only two issues, but I had a hard time seeing where the split between Cyclops and Wolverine would be. The situation set up in the first two issues didn’t have the impact to create such a split that Logan would leave with some of the X-Men. But now? Now it makes sense.

And it’s pretty intersting which side they both fall on. It shows how much both men have been changed over the years. Logan’s response is something you would have expected from Cyclops years ago.

Aaron does a good job of keeping the tension and setting the tone. The use of Idie is a good choice. And Logan’s interest in her the previous couple of issues makes more sense. And the payoff is in this issue. It’s a pleasant surprise that Idie becomes so central to Schism. It’s pretty rare that a scene in a comic is totally surprising nowadays, but this was. I didn’t see the cause of the split coming like it did.

There’s a couple of funny moments, one-liners, with the comments from the Hellfire kids as well as the X-Men. The only complaint, and I hope it doesn’t carry over into the new ‘Wolverine And The X-Men’ title is that during the fight it feels like there’s 5 individual fights and not the X-Men against the Hellfire Club. As far as I know Aaron hasn’t done a team book, just solo characters, and it shows in how the fight is handled.

Acuna’s art is hard to classify. I like it overall but there’s parts of it that look very rushed and unfinished. There’s a looseness to parts of it as well. It definately stands out as unique and in most cases is very good stuff.

X-Men: Schism #3 receives
4 out of 5

The cause of the rift happens in this issue and it’s definately a surprise how it happens.
