Darkwing Duck #15

Let’s get political…which is proving to be a new kind of dangerous for Darkwing Duck. In Darkwing Duck #15 the masked mallard in mask is still running for mayor but now against CEO and sidekick Launchpad McQuack.

This continues to be a sophisticated comic that does not talk down to its audience. Broader than just being a kids comic, this comic folds in the campaign trail that is heating up on CNN but gives it a full dose of duck world spin. Ian Brill proves yet again to be a great spin doctor even in this political farce.

New super powered baddies pop up by droves. Building upon the madcappery of the TV show the creators are given free reign to continue developing the world, it’s people, and their relationships. They do it well. One of my main gripes with the 200x MOTU was how stagnant the cast seemed. Val Staples was very open that the toy company restricted their character choices. SLG’s partnership with Gargoyles built upon the original TV world but developed it as it saw fit. It reunited with the series creator to do so, picking up where he left the animated project. Darkwing Duck may have a new creative lineup that did not work on the show, but it is clear that they respect and love the world in which they are working.

In the opening fight scene, staged medias res with dialogue in a classic manner, the reader not only catches up on what is going on but is flooded with Launchpad mayoral merchandise showing the way the town was leading at the end of #14.

Of course, the feuding candidates still take ample opportunity to get dangerous in this issue. This is a series that I continue to recommend as a must read. Check it out and discuss on the Pryde Forum.

It’s a super-powered stampede as waves and waves of brand new baddies pop up all over St. Canard, in the midst of a mayoral race you have to see to believe! How many more meta human menaces are gonna show up to crash Darkwing’s political party? Count ‘em all in “The Ballot of Darkwing and Launchpad!” Fan-favorite writer Ian Brill and superstar artist James Silvani bring you another fantastic issue of DARKWING DUCK!
