This is what JMS’s Wonder Woman reboot amounts to. It all comes to an end in this issue. Was it worth it?

No.

Not even close.

The thing to wonder is how much this ending was affected by the new 52 that premieres next month. The last segment has Wonder Woman saying that she just left an alternate reality and she has a feeling that a new similar change is coming. So what was the original intention with this?

Her mother tells her that she will face every challenge head on as Wonder Woman. This issue is meant to highlight who and what Wonder Woman is. But in the end it fails on all accounts.

As the end to Odyssey, it’s a let down. There was a lot of build up that led to nothing. The status quo is restored. It amounts to no more then a dream sequance that didn’t even add anything to the character. The ending, her refusing to become like Nemesis, could be seen coming a mile away. But again, what would have been different if the New 52 wasn’t coming.

I do like that they kept the Odyssey uniform on her, which grew on me and I like it more then the original. It was a nice way of saying that the costume would not have changed at the end of the story arc, that she would have kept the new outfit.

As a last issue before the soft reboot next month, this issue really fails. Because of Odyssey being the storyline at the end, it doesn’t allow for any closure to any outstanding storylines. All in all it’s an unsatisfying issue to wrap up both Odyssey and the current run on Wonder Woman.

The art by Garbett and Kramer is pretty good. There’s enough of a difference between the two that you can tell which did what pages. But they are similar enough that it’s not a jarring change.

Wonder Woman #614 receives
2 out of 5

An unsatisfying conclusion to a storyline that would have amounted to nothing regardless of the reboot.
