Blue Beetle #1
Written by: Tony Bedard
Penciled by: Ig Guara

Now this is a new reader friendly issue. It doesn’t count on having read any appearances of the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle. It’s a fresh start, complete origin (or start of) tale.

Well written by Bedard. I don’t know anything of the character previous to this so I’m interested in learning what Bedard is doing differently. Does the scarab still have the same origin?

Guara’s art is top notch. Good stuff. Clean and with good layouts.

DC Universe Presents: Deadman #1
Written by: Paul Jenkins
Art by: Bernard Chang

Interesting look inside the life of Deadman. Jenkins does a good job getting to the core of his character and what it must be like being him. As a first issue/origin issue, this works great. There’s not much in the way of plot development, just alot of Deadman talking. But it’s a good talking.

Chang’s art is fantastic. Best work of his I’ve seen.

Batman #1
Written by: Scott Synder
Penciled by: Greg Capullo

Great art by Capullo. Really well done. He’s reigned in his more Mcfarlane-ish side and returned to closer to what his work first was on X-Force. Good job. Except Dick Grayson looks too young. Much too young.

The story is a bit odd. Batman sounds out of character. It doesn’t sound like Batman at all. And I hate the mass break-outs at Arkham and Batman wipes the floor with a dozen of his foes quickly. It makes it harder to believe that they can give him trouble one on one later. Decent cliffhanger at the end.
