Scourge Breaks Out-Snot What I Expected
Published on Sunday, October 2, 2011 by

I went to the comic shop two days in a row, once by myself to pick up my books for the week, and once with friends to hang out. On the second more populated trip several of my friends picked up Archie and Sega’s Mega Man. They’d both enjoyed the first two issues and wanted to catch up. We discussed Ian Flynn’s writing. I mentioned Kevin Keller. I pointed out that his run on Sonic Universe was great.

That made me realize I had yet to pick up the final issue of Scourge’s prison arc in Sonic Universe. I rectified that. Sonic Universe #32 is a fun conclusion to this ongoing arc.

The issue simultaneously was and was not what I expected. I expected Scourge and the Destructix to break out. I figured Cal and Al would be unleashed. Those happen. Scourge also picks up some revenge on…everybody. Figures.

I haven’t been a regular Sonic reader, but I expected the blue hedgehog would show up at the end of the arc. He doesn’t. Scourge gets away and slips off to another universe to plan his come back. Scourge is looking to take on Shadow, Nuckles, and Sonic at some point but not quite yet.

This is a kid friendly amount of violence that reads well for fans of all ages. This all ages prison story works well.

I had planned to only read this arc and stop…until the last page caught my attention. I want to know more about what the Rouges are going to do next. The next arc kicks off next month penned by Tracy Yardley. This issue wasn’t completely what I expected but it’ll bring me back for more. Discuss on the Pryde Forum.
