Walking Dead # 89-Advanced Review

I was just remarking the other day that it feels like it has been a while since the last installment of Walking Dead. That probably just means that I am spoiled with the weekly editions and feeling picky. Nevertheless, Walking Dead #89 hits the shelves this Wed.

Rick is dealing with his own weaknesses and insecurities. He still has trouble showing his weakness to anyone. Can he get a handle on his emotions in time to realize what is conspiring around him?

It is not surprising that Rick is in danger…again. That seems to be a running continuity in this book. Although it is always fun to see where trouble originates. Since the Walking Dead are those struggling to survive, but ultimately doomed, this comic provides many dangerous topics.

Rick has yet again moved up the ladder to being in charge and that always comes with the problem of leading people that don’t want to be led.

The cast is large at the moment but in time it will become a more manageable amount of people. The creative team does a nice job with hats and outfits to try to keep the characters as distinct as reasonably possible. Only a few characters start to blur together. Partially it is because of the wait issue to issue. In a trade paperback the characters would be readily identifiable without the fake habit of walking into a room and doing a head count to clue in the reader.

This issue has a poignant discussion of what it means to be alive and be the person you were. Is it possible to save a person’s life and still lose the person? How many memories does it take to be the person you were?

Discuss on the Pryde Forum.
