Edmondson knows how to write a good ending to a mini-series.

This issue explains alot, but doesn’t explain anything. It answers alot, but it doesn’t answer anything. It ends with no threads less dangling, but it doesn’t wrap it all up. It ends but is also left open.

We learn where Jake Ellis is, but we don’t learn who he is. We learn some of what happened and how Jake ended up in Jon’s head. But we don’t learn how or why.

But in the end we don’t need to. This is not one of those stories where after the mysteries are still left, you put it down and go “huh”, meaning you need to learn more in order to be satisfied. No, this issue leaves the reader satisfied even though we don’t really learn much at all.

Prior to this Jon was thankful for Jake’s presence but he also seemed annoyed and ungrateful. It’s fitting that his last acts with Jake are to try to bring peace to Jake.

The end is very well done as well. We’re left asking questions and with the little bit of cliffhanger it leaves us wanting more. But if there never is anymore, the series concludes and leaves us with a complete book.

Zonjic’s art was great for this story but I think his style limits him to what type of story he could do. I can’t see him doing a normal super hero story, but it’s perfect for a spy tale like this one.

Who Is Jake Ellis? #5 receives
4.5 out of 5

Even though there are lots of questions left unanswered, Edmondson still provides a satisfying conclusion.
