I picked this up at NYCC and I’m glad I did. I’ve been impressed with what 215 Ink has to offer and this book is no exception.

This is a B-Movie in comic form. It’s one of those old time horror movies, the ones that Mystery Science Theatre made fun of, but it wouldn’t appear on that show because this is actually good.

Haven Hallows is a nice little town at the turn of the 20th Century. It just happens to be a town where strange things happen and today is no exception as they’re being invaded by Frogmen From Neptune. The Frogmen want need our babies for food. The story follows Douglas and the rest of the townsfolk as they drive off the invaders.

High concept this is not. But it’s alot of fun. Mike Perkins handles the script perfectly for this kind of story. There’s a little bit science listen and alot of science fiction. There’s some over the top moments, but it all works great to provide an entertaining story. The pace is fast, but it fits the tone. The Frogmen are appropiately corny but at the same time there is a definate menace to them. There’s enough fun moments and just the right horror moments.

The art by Will Perkins is very good. He’s got a good grasp of storytelling. There are some moments where the art jumps and doesn’t flow as smoothly, but the overall work is solid. He’s got a good grasp of details and the Frogmen look great.
