Green Lantern: Animated #0

Green Lantern attacked Cartoon Network on Nov 11th with the series premier of Green Lantern: The Animated Series, now the story begins with the #0 comic book counterpart. The series opens with Lantern’s Hal Jordan and Kilowog being ambushed by members of the Red Lanterns in a mid space battle that sets up the conflict to kick off the series.

GREEN LANTERN: THE ANIMATED SERIES #0 comes from the Eisner Award-winning creative team of Art Baltazar and Franco (TINY TITANS) and fan-favorite artist Dario Brizuela (SUPER FRIENDS).

While this #0 issue kicks off a story that is more coherent than the pun heavy Tiny Titans, this series does not yet show the new reader accessibility of Batman: Brave and the Bold or Young Justice. In fact, the Green Lantern series seems almost enigmatic on its own with a less than helpful narration between Hal Jordan and the computer being exposition heavy.

The art team of Art Baltazar and Franco Urru and Dario Brizuela create a cartoon familiar comic book, however the story just isn’t there. Perhaps in a few issues this comic will find its feet, but at the moment it does less to pull in new readers than some of the other DC Kids comics. Casual Green Lantern fans may find this Jordan/Kilowag team up more enjoyable than non-GL officiants.
