Quick Thought Reviews For The Week Of 12/28/11

Teen Titans #4
Published by: DC Comics
Written by: Scott Lobdell
Penciled by: Brett Booth

Decent enough issue. I wish Lobdell was going to take the Wonder Girl/Superboy relationship in a new direction but it already looks like he’s setting them up to be a couple. I haven’t been reading Superboy so don’t know where this falls in continuity with his solo book but I’d assume it lines up since Lobdell is writing both. The fight over the sweatshirt was stupid. Very stupid. Excellant work by Booth.

Ultimate X-Men #5
Published by: Marvel Comics
Written by: Nick Spencer
Penciled by: Paco Medina

This seems all over the place. It seems to sputter before it starts. The confrontation between X-Men and Stryker is just paced very oddly. So is the whole Quicksilver and President thing. It just is all paced oddly and the timing is off. Not up to Spencer’s usual abilities. The art by Medina is good, but because of the odd pacing it feels off as well.

Dungeons & Dragons #14
Published by: IDW Publishing
Written by: John Rogers
Penciled by: Andrea Di Vito

Another excellant issue. These are always fun. Rogers does good with the plot, throwing a curveball into the mix. The highlight is the interaction between the characters, which is again top notch. Di Vito does the full issue. Not his best work, but solid.

Avengers: The Children’s Crusade #8
Published by: Marvel Comics
Written by: Allan Heinberg
Penciled by: Jimmy Cheung

Slightly confusing issue. Did they take the power away from Doom? Was Doom responsible for Avengers Disassembled? That would be really stupid if they brought Scott Lang back but killed off Cassie. What would be the point? Does Wanda have her powers back? What exactly happened?

Secret Avengers #20
Published by: Marvel Comics
Written by: Warren Ellis
Art by: Alex Maleev

How do you change time without changing time? Warren Ellis shows us how. Extremely well plotted, well crafted and interesting. Love seeing the Widow jumping around in time all to set up events so she saves the life of her team in the future. Well done.
