This is an interesting story. It’s based on a couple of old short stories, which I’ve never read. But I like Joe Hill, and anything he’s involved in I’ll check out. That he worked on this with Stephen King helps.

I know a little about the motorcycle gang culture, and it’s not just what is learned from watching Sons Of Anarchy. The Club is your life, and that’s the one thing this story falters on. This is not a united club, which doesn’t hold up. The Tribe is divided, and it’s kind of odd that the one incident would be the one that splits it.

But really that ends up being a minor issue with the overall story because the rest of it is very solid. Decently paced and an interesting set-up, this grabs you from the start and doesn’t let go. Especially towards the end when the big rig gets involved. It’s a good illustration of how quickly a motorcycle can kill you.

I’m interested in the story with the big rig. The tattoo on the guy’s arm has to be significant, since it was shown so much.

There’s not much personality shown to the bikers; beyond Vince, Lemmy and Race. Even though they just end up being background characters, it would have been nice to have some more personality to the names. I’m hoping the upcoming issues flesh out the remaining characters a bit more.

Overall the story is high quality. There’s some minor issues, but the majority of it is strong.

Daniel’s art is excellant. The panels where the truck kills the bikers are a little weak, but the rest of the art is strong. There’s some interesting perspectives and angles. Daniel does a good job with the bikes. I like the dot patterns he does for shading, which I remember from The Cape one-shot. It’s a different technique and it works very well.
