With the 21st issue, the creators pay homage to the famous silent interlude issue of G.I. Joe, #21. But this time, the redhead doesn’t need rescuing, she does the rescuing.

A completely silent issue is hard to pull off. It takes very good coordination between the writer and the artist. Bunn and Hurtt work great together and they pull off the silent issue.

One sequence really illustrates how well they do it. Becky is leaving a room and her reaction, body language, lets us know that she heard something disturbing. The whole issue is like that, well crafted and well paced.

And like the issue it pays homage to, G.I. Joe #21, there’s even a game changing reveal. In G.I. Joe it was the shared tattoo revealed at the end. In The Sixth Gun, it’s a large mural that Becky and Drake find.

This could have easily have had words and sound effects and still have been a good read, but the silence ends up making it a great read.

Bunn and Hurtt are creating a true epic with this series. Each issue seems to add a new layer to the overall mythos.
