May 5th is my favorite holiday this year!May 5th coincides with the first Saturday of May which means comic book shops across the country will be hosting Free Comic Book Day!

Free Comic Book Day is a single day – the first Saturday in May each year – when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE* to anyone who comes into their stores.

Stores have different levels of involvement. I’ve seen some throw the free books out among the regular weekly comics and see if patrons could find them. I’ve seen stacks of free comics by the door. I’ve seen game tournaments, creator signing bookings, sketches, sales, and all manner of other fun and festivities to celebrate Free Comic Book Day.

So, what is your local comic book shop doing? IF you don’t know, then it is time to find out. When you find out, share with us. This is a great day of the year, but it is even better when shared with friends.

*Check with your local shop for their participation and rules.
