When Will The Chitauri Appear In The Comics?
Published on Monday, May 7, 2012 by

With the huge success of the Avengers over the weekend, is it only a matter of time before the “new” alien race appears in the pages of the comics?

Yes, the Chitauri have appeared in comics. They are the Ultimate Universe’s version of the Skrulls, the shape shifting aliens that have menaced the 616 universe (the Marvel Universe from the comic books) time and again.

The Chitauri as they appear in the movie are not related to the Ultimate Chitauri. They look different and they act differently.

I really liked the look of the aliens, their technology and what little bit of their culture we got (the scenes with the priest). I can see their appearance in the comics being a truly epic storyline (and something I think Joss Whedon should undertake, or if not him, I’ll gladly do it).

And I won’t mention the after-credits scene from the movie, but with that connection the coming-out in the comics story would truly be epic.

Marvel worked hard to get the movie version of Nick Fury into the comics, as well as SHIELD Agent Phil Coulson, so I can see them wanting to add the Chitauri to the comics.

I think it’s just a matter of time.

    • It makes sense to bring the Chitauri into the comics in a splashy way that the public will see. I have yet to see the movie—I have my reasons— but since this is what the mas public knows as Avengers, then to pull them into the comics familiar elements need to be introduced. Sam L. Fury and Coulson seem to point toward a future where story lines could converge.
