Phantom Lady Appears In The New 52

DC announced today that there will be a Phantom Lady mini-series launching in August. With the Ray already in the New 52, can the rest of the Freedom Fighters be far behind?

On their The Source blog, DC Comics announced the August shipping mini-series written by the team of Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. Cat Staggs and Rich Perotta will provide the art and Amanda Connor will be doing the covers. The series also stars another Freedom Fighter, Doll Man.

Justin Gray told The Source that “Phantom Lady and Doll Man is an exciting return to the roots of the characters as pulpy, street level crime fighters with a few new twists and some heavy sci-fi overtones. We took the best of their original core concepts and updated them with no relation to our previous work on Phantom Lady and Doll Man in the Freedom Fighters. You’re getting in on the ground floor of the origin story of two people whose lives intersect and a common threat that transforms them into pretty amazing and engaging superheroes.”

Palmiotti added that “We are super excited to reconnect with characters we have been so close with over the years, and getting to create something both exciting and visually cool in the process. With this series, we dig into who Phantom Lady and Doll Man are, how they came to be and how they fit into DC COMICS-THE NEW 52. There is something for everyone here and we are having a blast!”

Palmiotti and Gray were the writers of the last batch of Freedom Fighter stories, a couple of mini-series and the ongoing that ended shortly before the New 52 started. They are also the team behind the recently concluded The Ray mini-series, bringing that character into the New 52.

With The Ray, Doll-Man and Phantom Lady now in the New 52, will Uncle Sam and the rest of the Freedom Fighters make an appearance soon and will they be part of Earth 1 or their own section of the Multiverse like they originally were?
