Quick Thought Reviews For The Week Of 06/13/12

It was another Marvel heavy week, but some books from other publishers in there as well.

Avengers Assemble #4
Published by: Marvel Comics
Written by: Brian Michael Bendis
Penciled by: Mark Bagley

Uhm… bad… that’s about all I can think of to say about this series. The dialogue is clunky. Most of the players are out of character. Since when is Stark so whiny? The art is inconsistent and the story is bad. Thanos hasn’t been on Earth for awhile and yet he already knows what Asgardia is? Asgardia is a new entity, relatively fresh. How’d Thanos learn of it?

The Sixth Gun #23
Published by: Oni Press
Written by: Cullen Bunn
Art by: Tyler Crook

I liked Kirby Hale before, but I really like him now. Bunn does a great job of showing how unrepetant Hale is, how much of a bastard he thinks he is, and at the end we get a pretty interesting look at him. His last question and the last page was heartbreaking in a way. Great character issue.

Fantastic Four #607
Published by: Marvel Comics
Written by: Jonathan Hickman
Penciled by: Giuseppe Camuncoli

Another great job by Hickman. I like the changes he’s making to Wakanda, it makes the nation more powerful and tied into the larger MU. Everything Hickman added makes sense and none of it contradicts anything previously established. Brubaker and Hickman should give lessons on how to do retcons.

    • When I was younger I made mine Marvel. Then for a while I imagined mine Image. IDW doesn’t have a snappy word play but was almost all I read for a while. Now Marvel is sneaking back in. It is funny how my reading moves in cycles over the years. I suppose it just all goes around and around.

How is Demon Knights holding up ten issues in?
