S.H.I.E.L.D. Beltbuckles?

At the Heroes Con several stalls were vending geeky t-shirts and comic swag. One had a great Avengers movie emblem belt buckle which made me wonder if they had a S.H.I.E.L.D. or Hydra? I did see several Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. related cosplays as well so perhaps that made me wonder about belt buckles.  Either way, I’m a belt buckle geek and am always looking for more buckles to add to the collection. Oddly my wife seems to agree that 50+ belt buckles are not enough for one person but that is  a rant or thanksgiving for another time.

The booth at the show didn’t have S.H.I.E.L.D. or Hydra buckles.

Today, coincidentally I wound up at Spencers  in the mall. I’ve aged out of buying most of the beer pong t-shirts and other things but I am a sucker for their belt buckle selection. They also frequently run the buckles on sale. Their selection includes music, sex related, and of course comic/movies. I picked up an Iron Man comic buckle, a diamond tread plate skull buckle, and a buckle with tasteful brass knuckles but not what I was looking to buy.

B is for buckles. A for Avengers which is cool. Wouldn’t a S.H.I.E.L.D. buckle make more sense since presumably the generic troopers actually wear the buckles? I suppose the argument is that the movie title merchandise might sell better than merchandise that makes people actually think about the film.

Exhausting an internet search reveals several cosplay folk making their own or making a limited number of buckles for their cohorts. Amazon.com has a $39.99 Hydra buckle that looks like it has no markings which make it look made by a craftsman more than merchandise. I also found a SAMCRO buckle that I’ll be wanting for my birthday even though I don’t know why that came up in a Hydra search on the mysterious google?

I guess I’ll just have to keep waiting and looking.

I’ve always wanted to do a little cosplay. I have a Cobra Commander outfit but the hood gets awkward after a while and I wouldn’t want to spend all day at a convention that way. Pre-movie Hydra outfits look easy to make. My wife and I do a little sewing when we have time. Unfortunately, neither of us have ever dabbled in belt buckle making. The soldering wouldn’t be bad but the front engraving looks tough. Maybe if I have the time I’ll do it myself so that I can do it right. Otherwise I’ll keep watching and waiting.
