Hit-Girl #2

I came to Kick Ass with the umpteenth reprinting just before the movie hit theaters. That was a fun Mark Millar product that made a huge impact for the creator-owned product. The follow up series Kick Ass 2 left me dissatisfied. Hit-Girl on the other hand is quite fun.Somehow this series seems to have the frantic warped realism of the first Kick Ass, the guts, the bruises, and the fun of the original series.

Hit Girl is living with her mother and step father. She is supposed to be living the normal life, but anyone that knows Mindy knows that isn’t her style. In fact she is having trouble fitting in. She has turned to Kick Ass to teach her to be a normal kid while she teaches him to live up to his on-line reputation. Watching Mindy train Kick Ass is fun. Watching her struggle to fit into normal and home life is fun.

This is a fun book.

It is not however kid friendly. I spotted a few kids cosplaying Hit Girl at a recent convention and wondered if they’d read this foul mouthed comic, watched the equally gorey movie, or were dressed by their parents.

In related news check out the review of Kick Ass 2 #1, #2, the preview of #3Hit Girl #1, and the Yu drawn Millar world crossover As they said on Reading Rainbow, don’t take our word for it, check it out for yourself.
