Royal Flush Gang on Arrow?

Royal Flush Gang to bring more DC villains to the Arrow universe on CW.SuperHeroHype relates images from the upcoming Royal Flush appearance from CW’s Arrow. The show is doing a great job showing the birth of a rich boy turned hero, but the show will make it or break it on its villains. Like Smallville, Arrow is off to a great start but could come crashing to a halt if the villains start being goofy. The Smallville style realism would be shattered by villains that look like they should be chasing Adam West and Burt Ward.

When it was announced that the Royal Flush Gang would be appearing in the ‘realistic’ tv show Arrow, most fans scratched their heads a little.  Like Deadshot, the Royal Flush Gang has a very comicy visual style.  In the orginal comics, they dressed in playing card-themed outfits with special abilities for each member and one of them (Ace) was even a robot. Would this make the jump to the new series?

Producer Andrew Kreisberg put that to rest a few weeks ago by telling GreenArrowTV

“You’ll see with the Royal Flush Gang, that the dynamic of the family, and the iconography of the playing cards are going to be there, without the supernatural bent. I think we’ve come up with a really clever way to portray them in a more grounded, realistic world.”

Looking at the “realistic” Royal Flush Gang image below reminds me of the Nolan version of the Joker’s gang. Perhaps it is the bank robbery scene that makes that seem familiar. The Royal Flush Gang from the comics were always attracted to high end card themed targets, jewels, and the large money. Will ski masks have the same villainous aesthetic?

Arrow stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, Colin Donnell as Tommy, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, with Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance.

The show airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Unfortunately it has not been re-running the episodes on Friday like they did the first week. The is streamable via an online CW app beginning on Thursday if appointment television is not part of your schedule.
