Quick Thoughts For The Week Of 12/05/12
Published on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 by

I read a lot of books and the pile just keeps getting bigger. Here’s what I read this week.

Earth 2 #7
Published by: DC Comics
Written by: James Robinson
Penciled by: Yildray Cinar

I’ve come to the conclusion that this is what the New 52 should have been, complete re-imaginings. Earth 2 is great. New world, new (but familiar) characters, good story, good art. It’s good stuff. After the Grundy storyline this calms down a bit and helps explore the world some more. Robinson is crafting a unique book here.

Shadowman #2
Published by: Valiant Comics
Written by: Justin Jordan & Patrick Zircher
Penciled by: Patrick Zircher

Another strong book from Valiant. I’m liking the world that Zircher and Jordan are crafting. Love Mr. Twist. Grotesque. Always been a big Zircher fan and this is some of his best work.

The Amazing Spider-Man #699
Published by: Marvel Comics
Written by: Dan Slott
Penciled by: Humberto Ramos

On one hand I’m disappointed that Peter is alive in Doc Ock’s body, kind of hoped it had cashed out at the end of last issue, because it would have said “this change is for a long time”. But on the other hand this issue just proves how strong a character Peter Parker is, and how his mind is the strongest part of him, not his Spidey powers. Love how he’s able to use Doc Ock’s mind to get rescued and figure out how it happened.

Phantom Lady and Dollman #4
Published by: DC Comics
Written by: Justin Gray & Jimmy Palmiotti
Penciled by: Cat Staggs

Not the stronges of finishes to the mini-series, but good wrap-up to the re-introduction of Phantom Lady and Dollman. I like the new Uncle Sam and the Ray and how they recruit the duo. Liked how Bender was able to defeat Funerella without powers. It just highlights that smarts beat abilities any day.

Cyberforce #2
Published by: Image Comics
Written by: Marc Silvestri w/ Matt Hawkins
Penciled by: Khoi Pham

I used to like Cyberforce but this relaunch hasn’t been that good. It’s messy, hard to follow. Is it in the future? Present day? The first issue had an odd place to start and this one isn’t much difference. Part of the problem is Pham’s art. It’s messy and lacking some basic storytelling. The cybernetics are hard on the eyes, ugly and messy and hard to see. Silvestri, and Finch, did a much better job.
