Quick Thought Reviews For 12/19/12
Published on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 by

It’s Christmas and time to look at the books read in the last week. Won’t be a Quick Thoughts or Reviews for the week of 12/25/12 because of vacation won’t be getting new books until the new year.

FF #2
Published by: Marvel Comics
Written by: Matt Fraction
Art by: Mike Allred

I really wonder if I would like this book more if the art was different? Why is Medusa wearing a mask to bed? So far this book is bad. Bad art, bad script. Instead of these four substitutes, can we go back to focusing on the kids that make up the Future Foundation?

Batgirl #14 & 15
Published by: DC Comics
Written by: Gail Simone
Penciled by: Daniel Sampere

I will admit that my viewing of this book is colored by the fact that I loved the Bryan Q. Miller/Stephanie Brown Batgirl series that got canceled with the New 52. This book, as much as I wanted to like it, has not lived up to that one. I know Simone has loved for the character, and I’m glad she’s back on the book, but I’m liking it less and less each month. The forced appearance by the Joker just ruins the flow she was building.

Captain America #2
Published by: Marvel Comics
Written by: Rick Remender
Penciled by: John Romita Jr.

Wait.. Ian was just a baby last issue, this issue says it’s one year later? That kid looks at least 5, probably 7 or 8. And no mention of rapid aging? What? This book is teetering on the edge. I’m not liking the direction, not even liking the flashback’s Remender is doing.

Saga #8
Published by: Image Comics
Written by: Brian K. Vaughn
Art by: Fiona Staples

Love the word that Vaughn is crafting. Unique, wildly imaginative, interesting characters and cast. Just lots to like here. And it looks good thanks to Staples. The storyline is great with no parts being added every issue. Love that he’s spending time fleshing out the world of the mercenaries as well.

Avengers #2
Published by: Marvel Comics
Written by: Jonathan Hickman
Penciled by: Jerome Opena

This book is great. The recruitment speeches are perfect, changed to match the characters being recruited. The stuff on Mars is great. Love how Hickman is laying this out, kind of patchwork and jumping around. Have to pay attention to the details. Amazing book.
