NEWS | NYCC Day 2: Dynamite announces new Solar, Turok, Magnus, Doctor Spektor series

Dynamite Entertainment snags publishing rights to popular Gold Key Comics characters. Mark Waid, Greg Pak, Fred Van Lente, Frank Barbiere attached to write four new series slated for a February 2014 launch.

Dynamite Entertainment, publisher of such titles as The Boys, Battlefields, Red Sonja, Jennifer Blood, Warlord of Mars, Zorro, among others, announced today its plans to launch four new titles in February 2014 featuring the popular Gold Key Comics characters Turok, Magnus, Solar, and Doctor Spektor. While not explicitly stated in the press release, it is expected that these new titles will feature “rebooted” versions of the characters with a history and continuity inspired by but distinct from that found in the various Turok, Magnus, Solar, and Doktor Spektor publications released by Dell Comics, Gold Key Comics, Valiant Comics, Acclaim Comics, and Dark Horse Comics over the past several decades.

  • Turok: Dinosaur Hunter will be written by Greg Pak (Incredible Hulk, Code Monkey Save World) and feature art by Mirko Colak (Red Skull, Conan the Barbarian).
  • Magnus, Robot Fighter will be written by Fred Van Lente (G.I. Joe, Brain Boy) and feature art by Cory Smith (Legend of the Shadow Clan, Broken Pieces).
  • The Occult Files of Doctor Spektor will be written by Mark Waid (Daredevil, Incorruptible) with an artist to be announced.
  • Solar: Man of the Atom will be written by Frank Barbiere (Five Ghosts: The Haunting of Fabian Gray, Divine Intervention) with an artist to be announced.
